Our native town is Tambov. It is a wonderful place to live in.

The Tambov region is situated in the forest-steppe zone. There are a lot of broad-leaved forests and meadow steppes there. In the region there are 59 species of mammals , 243 species of birds, 8 species of reptiles and 28 species of fish. In the Tambov region there are 97 nature monuments.

The ecological environment in the Tambov region is favourable in general. However, there is change to the worse. The water is not so clean any more due to human reckless actions. Many useful plants are being cut down for creating new industrial areas. Some animal species are disappearing from the surface of the Earth.

That’s why some species are recorded into the Red Book of the Tambov Region.

Spider silverfish These spiders were registered in the outskirts of Tambov and in the Galdym forestry. Unfortunately , there is no information about the number of silverfish in the Red Book of the Tambov region.

Sterlet According to the scribe books, there was sterlet in the Tsna River in the 17 th century.Now you can find it the Moksha River that is a bit below the mouth of the River Tsna .

European mink Unfortunately, some species of animals of the Red Book of the Tambov region disappear thanks to the activity of industrial companies and poachers. Mink has a valuable fur. So, the number of these animals is quickly reduced. That’s why, people should take measures to restore or save its population.

Grass - snake It is a very rare species on the territory of the Tambov region. The main reason of their disappearing is dependence on the population of lizards. They are the main food of grass-snakes. Besides, people kill them because of their illiteracy and ignorance.

Badger Unfortunately, these good-natured creatures have become endangered animals. They are killed for their healthy fat that is used in non-traditional medicine.

Ignorance about ecology may lead to further destruction of nature and worsen living conditions for all living beings.

If we take action now, there might be some hope for the future. If we do nothing, we are heading for disaster!
