Teletskoye Lake is often called the little brother of Baikal. Similar to Baikal, it is very deep. Stretched along the mountains, its length is much greater than its width, and it has a plenty of rivers and creeks disgorging into it.

Some Facts Situated at a height of 434 m above the sea level, the lake lies between the mountain ridges Korbu and Al- tyntu . The lake contains no less than 40 km³ (cubic) of fresh water. The visibility of the lake water ranging from six to fourteen meters. Teletskoye is one of 15 deepest lakes on Earth.

UNESCO Lake Teletskoye is included into Altaisky Nature Reserve. That reserve was listed as one of UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sites under the name "Golden Mountains of Altai".

Tourism In terms of tourism Teletskoye Lake is a very popular place. This is one of the most visited sites in the Altai region. The shores of the lake are all covered with forest. Rafting and ATV ride tours are organized here.

Ecological issues Also, maybe it's not true, but local people say that Teletskoye lake is polluted on the other side, which is about 80 km to the north. The problem is that during the Soviet times there was a space launch base at Baikonur in Kazakhstan.
