We need COOKING 2 cups (300 g) all-purpose (plain)flour ¼ teaspoon salt • 1 teaspoon baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) ¾ cup (180 g) salted butter, softened • ¾ cup (150 g) sugar • 1 large egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (essence) For DECORATION ½ cup (120 g) salted butter • 2 cups (300 g) confectioners’ (icing) sugar 2 tablespoons milk • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (essence) • Bright yellow sugar • Black candy writer Tiny orange candies, for the beaks • Small chocolate buttons, for the eyes We MADE 20 cookies • PREPARED 45 minutes + 1 hour to chill • BAKED 13-15 minutes

COOKIES 1. We preheated the oven up to 160 °C (gas 3). Lined two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Sifted the flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl. 2. Beat butter and sugar in a bowl until it became pale and creamy. Added an egg and vanilla, beating until it just combined. Gradually beat in the flour mixture. We gathered the dough into a ball. Flattened into a disk and wrapped in plastic wrap. We chilled it for 1 hour, until firm.

3. We rolled out dough on a lightly floured work surface up to 5 mm thick. Using templates in the form of an egg shape cut out biscuits. Then made twice as many small cookies as large ones.. After that transferred them into prepared baking sheets, spacing 1 inch (2.5-cm) apart.

4. We baked them for 13-15 minutes, until they became pale golden brow, then allowed them to cool.

5. We covered large yellow cookies covered with glaze completely. As for fine biscuits we covered first the upper part of the yellow glaze, then the lower part – white one. We traced the zigzag line with dairy chocolate. 6. We made beaks and eyes.
