My name is Tatyana. I am a student of the 8th grade. I am only 14 years old, but I realize that English is the language of international communication. English is useful when you travel, you can meet and communicate with people from all over the world. It can give you a chance to get a good job.
The theme of my project is: «The Educational system in Great Britain and in Russia». Now this theme is very up-to-date because one day every child has to go to school to become clever and well-educated. Growing up we began thinking about our future life and what type of school would be better for us. I am fond of learning languages ,especially English. One day the question was set for me where to go to study: to continue my education in Russia or to go abroad in Great Britain. To decide it I need to find out and compare these two educational systems.

Introduction
The purpose of my project:
To conduct a comparative analysis of the content of Russian secondary education and British secondary education.
Education in Great Britain
Educational system in Britain has strict quality standards. It is compulsory for all children aged 5 to 16 to study. British education is divided into two segments: state schools, which are free of charge, and private schools, which are paid for. Over 90% of children attend state public schools. Also Great Britain has two different systems of education: one is used in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and the other is used in Scotland. The most popular schools in Britain are Boarding Schools. These are institutions where kids not only study, but live. In Britain, as in many other countries, there is a pre-school education, i.e. there are nursery schools for children from 2 to 7. After the nursery school, kids attend Junior Schools till they are 13. During these years children have to pass an obligatory exam, called SAT (Standard Assessment Tests) twice. In case, they pass it successfully, they can easily transfer to the next step, which is called Senior School. This school is for children aged 13 to 18, and it prepares its pupils for the special exam called GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education). It is also the time for future profession choice. The main subjects at British schools are English, Mathematics, Geography, Art, Science, History, Physical Education, Information Technology, Music, Religious education and others. According to the classification of schools by gender, education in Britain can be divided into three types of institutions: mixed schools, schools for girls and schools for boys. Higher education in Great Britain is quite expensive, especially for foreign students. However, there are sometimes tuition grants for talented students.
A pre-school education in the UK
In the UK all children have to go to school between the ages of 5 and 16. In some parts of the UK PRESCHOOL, or NURSERY education is provided by the local government for children ages 3 and 4.
State and Private schools
In the UK most children go to schools that are provided by the government. In the UK they are known as STATE SCHOOLs.
In the UK, some children go to schools that their parents pay for. These are called private schools, but the most famous ones, such as ETON, HARROW, WINCHESTER, and RUGBY, are called Public schools. Public schools are often BOARDING SCHOOLs, where students live as well as study.
Some British people think that children at public schools get better education than children at state scools
Subjects
In England and Wales the subjects taught in schools are listed in the NATIONAL CURRICULUM, which was introduced in 1998, and lists in detail the subjects that all children must study. Children are tested at the ages of 7, 11, 14, and 16 to see if they have reached a particular level of achievement in those subjects. The National Curriculum does not apply in Scotland, where each school decides what subjects it will teach. Some British schools have prayers and religious teaching.

Education in Russia
Education in Russia is compulsory for children between the ages of 6 and 15. It consists of primary school education for ages 6-10, followed by senior school for ages 10-15. If a pupil of secondary school wishes to go on in higher education, he or she must remain to complete secondary school for 2 more years, from ages 15-17.
Private schools
Private schools are relatively uncommon in Russia. Such schools emphasize learning English and other critical skills. Unlike state schools, private schools usually charge tuition fees.
There are also international schools for expat children in major Russian cities, such as the Anglo-American School of Moscow. Established by the US, UK and Canadian Embassies in Moscow, the school features state of the art facilities and equipment.
Holidays and school hours
All public schools normally follow holidays given each year by the Ministry of Education and Science. Most private schools keep to the holidays of the official school system, with just a few days differing in some cases. These holidays are:
My visit to England
Last year I studied in England two times. I studied English with a lot of students from all over the world. We visited many cities in England. Here are some of them:London, Bath, Brighton, Cambridge, Oxford, Stonehenge, Winchester, Old Sarum, Southampton. I lived in Host Family in Salisbury.
Universities in GB
There are over 90 universities in GB. They are divided into three types: the old universities (Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities), in the 19th century universities, such as London and Manchester universities, and the new universities. Some years ago there were also polytechnics. After graduating from polytechnic a student got a degree, but it was not a university degree. 31 formers polytechnics were given university status in 1992.
Full courses of study offer the degree of Bachelor of Art or Science. Most degree courses at universities last three years, language courses 4 years (including year spent aboard). Medicine and dentistry courses are longer (5-7 years).
Students may receive grants from the Local Education Authority to help pay for books, accommodation, transport, and food. This grant depends on the income of their parents.
Most students live away from home, in flats of halls of residence.
Students don’t usually have a job during term time because the lessons called lectures, seminars, classes of tutorials (small groups), are full time. However, many students now have to work in the evenings.
University life is considered «an experience». The exams are competitive but the social life and living away from home are also important. The social life is excellent with a lot of clubs, parties, concerts, bars.
There are not only universities in Britain but also colleges. Colleges offer courses in teacher training, courses in technology and some professions connected with medicine.
Cambridge
Cambridge is one of the world's great university cities with a real atmosphere of learning. The city`s small size means that you can easily explore all of that it has to offer on foot. You can visit King`s College Chapel and the city`s charming shops, marvel at Cambridge`s historical architecture, and experience the excitement of rowing regattas on the River Cam .
The University is the second oldest university in the United Kingdom. It is next to the Oxford University. Globally, it is the 7th oldest university. This world renowned educational institution is located in the municipal borough of Cambridge where its name was taken. Here are some of the most historic and interesting facts about the University of Cambridge – one of the prides of the United Kingdom.
1. The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209. Today, it is a system of 31 independent colleges.
2. The university is governed by a senate which is headed by a chancellor. The senate is consists of all holders of the MA degree or higher degree. The office of Chancellor of the University has no term limits.
3. The colleges provide their students with lodgings and meals; assign tutors and offer social, cultural and athletic activities.
4. The university’s academic year is divided into 3 terms of about 8 weeks each.
5. The 3 terms, which is known in other universities as semester, are named Michaelmas (autumn - October to December), Lent (late winter- January to March) and Easter (spring - April to June).
Oxford
CONCLUSION:
After passing GCSE pupils have to choose. They can leave school or stay there and study for two more years.
In Russia most pupils prefer to continue education at school but there isn’t such a problem in Great Britain. There are a lot of colleges where good specialists are prepared.
Going to college is not only for pupils who don’t pass their exams normally. A lot of clever pupils go there just for getting a good vocational training. That’s why they enter such colleges. After and even during finishing college such students can earn their own money, and it is much faster than finishing school and then graduating from the university.
The cost of higher education in Great Britain is the highest in Europe. However, studying at British universities is so prestigious that it doesn't stop foreigners. The prices for a year of study are about 13 000 pounds sterling (depending on the university and faculty). And for medical specialties it costs about 21 000 pounds a year.
I think it's better to learn where you want and like, because everything is in our hands.

Discussed in detail features of training in both countries, we can conclude that the education of children in England and Russia really has a lot of similarities. But it is not necessary to turn a blind eye to the principles of the differences: 1) In the UK, students can choose their favourite subjects; 2) In Russian schools, there is no mandatory uniforms; 3) In the British education discipline is different severity. The main thing in Britain and Russia education is a key factor in the development of human capital.
