Some interesting changes and facts about British and Russian newspapers today The Independent and The Times have switched in recent years to a compact format . The Guardian switched in September 2005 to what is described as a " Berliner " format. All the major UK newspapers currently have websites , some of which provide free access. “ Trud ”, “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, “ Izvestiya ” became i ndependent .
