Introduction
In recent time among people of different age to communicate on the Internet became fashionable. In modern society, the internet has been perhaps the most outstanding innovation in the field of communication. Some people claim that the popularity of the internet will lead to damage to their communication skills. However, in my opinion, the internet is just a different way to communicate. I would like to state the benefits of the internet in communication. One of the popular means of communication now is video blogs. I am interested in this topic, because I believe these web pages is a very effective way of changing information. Nowadays many blogs provide video material as a commentary on a particular subject or topic. I began to study video blogs in detail, then, considering it has not been fully studied, I decided to write the work about them.
After a survey among classmates, I found out that video blogs are popular among teenagers of my age, as 56% watch video blogs and 8% lead them. Only 36% say that they don’t watch video blogs. I asked them “why?” , they are referred to the lack of time. (Graph №1, Annex№1, p.A1)
To determine the popularity of the English-speaking YouTube channels among teenagers in Russia, I asked “Do you watch English-speaking You Tube channels?” 43% of students responded positively. (Graph №2, Annex№1, p.A1)
The survey showed that videoblogging is popular among teenagers and gain increasing popularity of English-speaking viewing YouTube channels without translation, which helps to improve the language skills and increase knowledge of other countries' cultures. (Poll results you can see in the p. Survey 3)
After that I had a theory that the blog is a dialogue of cultures and interests between the inhabitants of different countries. I am going to prove it.
To prove this theory, I set the following tasks:
the English-speaking and Russian-speaking video bloggers
similarities and differences between them
To realize my goals I used different sources of information. They are
Articles from the youth magazines, Internet sites, dictionaries and electronic encyclopedia.
Chapter 1. Blogs as the Internet talking pages
A blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web. It consists of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries ("posts"). Posts are typically displayed in chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page. Until 2009, blogs were usually the work of a single individual, sometimes of a small group, and often covered a single subject or topic. The rise of Twitter and other "microblogging" systems helps integrate all kinds of the blogs into the news media.
In the 2010s, majority are interactive Web 2.0 websites, allowing visitors to leave online comments and even message each other via GUI widgets on the blogs, and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites. In that sense, blogging can be seen as a form of social networking service. Indeed, bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs, but also build social relations with their readers and other bloggers.
Many blogs provide commentary on a particular subject or topic, ranging from politics to sports. Others function as more personal online diaries, and others function more as online brand advertising of a particular individual or company. A typical blog combines text, digital images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important contribution to the popularity of many blogs. However, blog owners or authors need to moderate and filter online comments to remove hate speech or other offensive content.
Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (art blogs), photographs (photoblogs), videos (video blogs or "vlogs"), music (MP3 blogs), and audio (podcasts).
1.2. History of blogs
The term “weblog” was coined by Jorn Barger on 17 December 1997. Shortly thereafter, Evan Williams devised the term “blogger” in connection with Pyra Labs Blogger product, leading to the popularization of the terms.
The modern blog evolved from the online diary, where people would keep a running account of the events in their personal lives. Most such writers called themselves diarists, journalists, or journalers. Justin Hall, who began personal blogging in 1994 while a student at Swarthmore College, is generally recognized as one of the earlier bloggers, as is Jerry Pournelle.
Another early blog was Wearable Wireless Webcam, an online shared diary of a person's personal life combining text, digital video, and digital pictures transmitted live from a wearable computer and EyeTap device to a web site in 1994. This practice of semi-automated blogging with live video together with text was referred to as sousveillance, and such journals were also used as evidence in legal matters. Early blogs were simply manually updated components of common Websites. However, the evolution of electronic and software tools to facilitate the production and maintenance of Web articles posted in reverse chronological order made the publishing process feasible to a much larger, less technical, population. Ultimately, this resulted in the distinct class of online publishing that produces blogs we recognize today. For instance, the use of some sort of browser-based software is now a typical aspect of "blogging". Blogs can be hosted by dedicated blog hosting services, or they can be run using blog software, or on regular web hosting services.
2.1 History of the video blogs
A video blog or video log, usually shortened to vlog, is a form of blog for which the medium is video, and is a form of web television. Vlog entries often combine video with supporting text, images, and other pictures. Entries can be recorded in one take or cut into multiple parts. The vlog category is popular on YouTube.
On January 2, 2000, Adam Kontras posted a video alongside a blog entry aimed at informing his friends and family of his cross-country move to Los Angeles in pursuit of show business, marking the first post on what would later become the longest-running video blog in history. In November of that year, Adrian Miles posted a video of changing text on a still image, coining the term vog to refer to his video blog. In 2004, Steve Garfield launched his own video blog and declared that year "the year of the video blog".
Vlogging saw a strong increase in popularity beginning in 2005. The Yahoo! Videoblogging Group saw its membership increase dramatically in 2005. The most popular video sharing site to date, YouTube, was founded in February 2005. By July 2006, it had become the 5th most popular web destination, with 100 million videos viewed daily and 65,000 new uploads per day.
2.2. YouTube presence
YouTube currently ranks among the top three most-visited sites on the web. As a high traffic area for video bloggers, or vloggers, YouTube has created a platform for these participants to present their personal videos, which oftentimes are filmed using hand held point and shoot cameras. The popularity of vlogs in the YouTube community has risen exponentially in the past few years; out of the top 100 most subscribed YouTube channels, 17 provide vlogs as their primary style of footage. Many of these vloggers are a part of the YouTube Partner Program, which professionalizes the industry and allows for monetary gain from video production. This professionalization additionally helps increase exposure to various channels as well as creates a sense of stability within the field. Additionally, this professionalization allows content creators to be deemed a credible source by their viewers. Furthermore, many vloggers have been able to turn their channels into sustainable careers; in 2013, the highest paid vlogger brought in a minimum of $720,000 for the year. Hollywood is taking notice of this rising medium, and has placed its value ranked over other entertainment companies such as Marvel, which was recently bought out by Disney as well.

Chapter 4. Similarities and differences
4.1. The main topics
There are some main topics which are interesting for subscribers in the Internet. They refer to everyday life, computer games, telephone communication and hobbies. Here it is a range of them.
Do it yourself, also known as DIY, is the method of building, modifying, or repairing things without the direct aid of experts or professionals. Subsequently, the term DIY has taken on a broader meaning that covers a wide range of skill sets. DIY amongst the community of subscribers is popular with ideas being shared on social media such as YouTube about clothing, jewellery and hair styles. This trend is becoming popular.
Let's Play - Video about passing a variety of video games with or without comments. Let's play, as a mass phenomenon, was born around 2012 in the vast English-speaking Youtube, and then, as often happens, was transferred to us. I want to note that the difference between let's play and passages is still there, and it lies in the fact that making the passing game, the player is trying to show each side of the game, all of its secrets and hidden vines. If we talk about Russian, let's play here or letspleyschik does not follow any rules, but just plays for fun.
Reviews - video in which, unlike let's play, it is not removed the passage of computer games. But what is the review? Review is a brief video report of the features of the game such as the plot, gameplay, music, depending on which obzorschik raises some assessment game. Generally, obzorschiki can use their reviews not only in computer games, but also for other things too, such as an overview on the smartphone, TV, computer, etc.
Prank - telephone hooliganism. People practicing Prank are called prankery. Prankery make phone calls (usually anonymous) and by provocations and jokes force their victims to give them a bright response.
Challenge - These blogs challenge you and seem to say: "Come on, show me what you can do, what you can do."
They lure you to a bright design and attractive banners in order to motivate you to do some actions or compete in something.
Life hacking - in slang means a little trick and useful advice to help solve everyday problems, thereby saving time. This is a set of methods and techniques "hacking" surrounding life to facilitate the achievement of these goals by using various tips and clever tricks. Usually lifehackers do not create new techniques but use existing advice like how to remove a spot or fix a thing.
Beauty Blog - it's a video where there is all the information about the hottest beauty-updates, seasonal and limited make-up collections of new and proven procedures and tools for face, body and hair. It is also a place where the topical issues of the beauty industry are raised and discussed.
To sum up, analyzing various YouTube channels, I came to the conclusion that all these themes have been taken from the English version of You Tube. Now these themes have become common and are used both the Russian-speaking and English speaking YouTube, and the terms have become international. So it is a similarity.
4.2. Attitude to subscribers
Attitude to the subscribers depends on the existence of a channel on YouTube. What bloggers are driving us and what repels?
To find out how often the video bloggers spread the video on their channel, I conducted an analysis which compares the most well-known Russian-speaking and English-speaking video bloggers.

Processing the data I came to the conclusion that videos on the English-speaking channels appear 4 times more often than on the Russian-speaking channels. This is the difference. English-speaking video bloggers care about the frequent release of new video on their channels, and do think of their subscribers.
People surfing YouTube channels, after watching only one video can understand if they are interested in that YouTuber or not. How does this happen? Certainly it happens on a subconscious level, a person simply realizes that he's interested in it. Psychologists have proved that there are some factors affecting the man during intercourse. During the communication different factors effect on each person. He or she can be attracted by a sound of voice, appearance, quality of videos and so on. That is why someone is interested in one sort of people, and someone in others. Since video blogs is a means of communication in the Internet, we can see and hear the speaker, and we can make our choice. Then I decided to find out what attracts and what repels the audience in video bloggers.
To realize this idea, I conducted a survey. I asked what teenagers pay attention to while watching the video.
As a result, in the first place was the sincerity. The second and third place occupied the jokes and simplicity. But the appearance of bloggers, surprisingly, took the 4th place in the list. And outsiders have become the voice, honesty and mimicry. (Graph №3, Annex№3, p.A10)
First of all, I needed to understand what kind of personality can be called genuine. To do this I formulated the concept of sincere man.
Sincerity - a perfect honesty, transparency and clarity.
Therefore, I can make a clear definition of a sincere man.
Sincere man - a man who, in the presence of others behaves in the same way as in solitude, comes from good intentions, kindness and positive attitude.
Everyone has the right to choose if the man is sincere or not, as we have never seen YouTuber in his life and can’t judge about his behavior. I believe that the English-speaking video bloggers are more sincere. I will try to prove the point. I'll start with the fact that the Russian-speaking YouTube has a lot of cutesy videos. Since cutesy videos are not natural, then Russian-speaking content is not sincere. In the English-speaking YouTube cutesy videos are present too, but not very often.
So it can be argued that the English-speaking video is more sincere.
I'm not talking about jokes, since all people have different senses of humor. Different countries have different sense of humor and the fact that the Russian-speaking audience may seem ridiculous for English-speaking and vice versa.
First, I need to understand what simplicity is. I note that simplicity is easiness of communication.
Simplicity – is when a person is not afraid to say what he thinks, to be a bit funny or not to follow the trends.
Analyzing the most famous Russian-speaking and English-speaking bloggers I have come to the conclusion that the English-speaking bloggers are more simple.
Thus the English-speaking video bloggers are more attractive for their audience than Russian-speaking ones.
When I asked what factors discourage you, I received the following answers: look down, silly jokes, pleading for likes and subscription, boasting and ingratitude. (Graph №4, Annex№3, p.A10)
I have formulated a clear concept haughtily.
Haughtily - disregarding the opinion of others (subscribers) and reneging on the promises.
After analyzing I can say that the Russian-speaking YouTubers do not keep their promises and not considered the opinion of the subscribers. The striking example is EeOneGuy who did not see and did not comment on the scandal connected with frauds in his chat, оr how he and Maryana Ro didn't come on a ‘Videofun’ when promised.
All the video bloggers are more or less pleading for likes and subscriptions, as this determines their earnings. But the question is how they do it. Do they remind about it during all the video or request only at the end? It’s a difference.
Ingratitude- when YouTuber does not thank their subscribers for subscriptions, likes, views and other merits.
After reviewing this question I realized that the Russian-speaking bloggers are the most ungrateful.
So English-speaking bloggers are more attractive to the audience than Russian-speaking ones. This is the main difference.
4.3. Censorship
“Bloggers don’t want to be responsible for their words!...”
Will censorship be disposed in YouTube in Russia? The question is asked by many Russian-speaking YouTubers. Now there is debate about this issue. Russian Orthodox Church proposes to introduce censorship on the entire Russian-speaking content. At various Orthodox forums there are discussions on the matter. Bloggers don’t want to take responsibility for their words, the result of which could be the imposition of censorship.
Of course censorship is bad, as all modern society is for freedom of speech, but what can we do? For example EeOneGuy alleges that on 9 May is an unnecessary holiday, Ruslan Sokolovsky catch Pokémon in the temple, and KateClapp and Sasha Spielberg are waging the war for money. If a blogger starts control himself then censorship is not necessary.
But is there really another choice? The problem with censorship exists not only in the Russian-speaking content. But English-speaking countries have come up with a more democratic solution to the problem - it is YouTube Heroes.
YouTube Heroes is a global community of volunteer contributors that help create the best possible YouTube experience for everyone. Heroes flag inappropriate content, add captions and subtitles to videos and share their knowledge with other users on the YouTube Help forum*, unlocking exclusive rewards along the way. The YouTube Heroes programme is offered everywhere that YouTube is available.
I hope that YouTube Heroes will be available on YouTube and the Russian-language censorship is unnecessary. The problem with censorship is a similarity, but solutions to this problem are significantly different.
Conclusion
In my work I knew what a blog, video blog and who are video bloggers. I studied the history of blogging and gave examples of the most popular video bloggers. Analyzing, I have found the similarities and differences between the Russian and English video bloggers.
After completing all the goals that I set for myself, I received an ambiguous answer to the question if the blog is a dialogue of cultures and interests between the inhabitants of different countries.
On the one hand, video blogging seems to be a real dialogue of cultures. Through video blogs people show their daily life, their hobbies, engaging in charity, the culture, the mentality of the people in this country. Having finished my research, I realized that in English-speaking countries people are more sincere and not shy to talk of what they care about. They do not advertise their earnings, say openly and justify their position, evoking human emotions in some videos. They communicate with their subscribers on a par, calling them “bro”. Thus with the help of blogs, you can learn about the mentality of the people as well as their culture.
But on the other hand, video blogging is not a dialogue of cultures, because the dialogue should be conducted by both sides. No doubt, the partners should be individual, unique and self-confident. But now, unfortunately, the entire Russian-speaking content is borrowed from the English-speaking YouTube, it is actually is copied from it and does not have its own position. Besides, the Russian-speaking YouTube videos are similar to each other. The Russian-speaking YouTube may not reflect our own culture fully as it copies information from English-speaking content.
I think that the Russian-speaking video bloggers are afraid to try something new, as in the case of the failure, they will be rejected by the audience.
We always think about the opinion of others and are afraid to be unique, driving ourselves into the framework. I think if we get rid of this quality, we will open a new unlike page of different Russian speaking YouTube. Only then we will be able to understand each other, negotiate easier and at last the “west monologue” will become a multicultural dialogue.

Hello! My name is Olga Dedushkina, I’m from ….My work is called “ Video blogs as a new way of communication”.
Page№2
In recent time among people of different age communication on the Internet has become fashionable. One of the popular means of communication now is video blogs. I am interested in this topic, because I believe web pages is a very effective way of changing information.
Page№3
After a survey among classmates, I found out that video blogs are popular among teenagers of my age, as 56% watch video blogs and 8% hold their video pages. Only 36% say that they don’t watch video blogs.
Page№4
43% of students responded that they often watch English-speaking You Tube channels. The information in English helps to improve the language skills and increase knowledge of other countries' cultures.
Page№5
After that I had a theory that the video blog is a dialogue of cultures and interests between the inhabitants of different countries.
Page№6
To prove this theory, I set the following tasks:
Page№7
A blog is a discussion on an informational website published in the World Wide Web. It consists of discrete, often informal “posts”.
Indeed, bloggers don`t only produce content to post on their blogs, but also build social relations with their readers and other bloggers.
Page№8
A video blog or vlog often combines video with supporting text, images, and other pictures. The vlog category is popular on YouTube, which created a platform for the viewers to present their personal videos.
Page№9
I want to talk about 2 of the most famous personalities on the English-speaking and Russian-speaking YouTube.
Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg is better known by his online pseudonim PewDiePie, is a Swedish web-based comedian and video producer, best known for his Let's Play commentaries and vlogs.
At the moment PewDiePie is «the king on YouTube», his channel has more than 52 million subscribers. «Forbes» magazine says, that he is the richest video blogger in the world.PewDiePie calls his fans the "Bro Army".
Page№10
Ivan Rudskoi also known as EeOneGuy is a Ukrainian web-based videobloger, best known for his Let's Play commentaries, comedy videos and vlogs. Now he has 10mln subscribers on his channel. Well, he is also the “king”, but on the Russian-speaking YouTube
Page№11
I discovered the main topics which are interesting for subscribers in the video blogs. I’ll translate them for you.
Analyzing various RussianYouTube channels, I came to the conclusion that all these themes have been taken from the English version of You Tube. So it is a similarity now.
Page№12
Attitude to the subscribers depends on the existence of a channel on YouTube. I came to the conclusion that videos on the English-speaking channels appear 4 times more often than on the Russian-speaking vlogs. This is the difference. English-speaking video bloggers care about the frequent release of new video on their channels, and do think more of their subscribers.

As for me, I believe that the English-speaking video bloggers are more sincere. For example Maryana Ro in her video said: "In this video, I will not be as usual grimace and show you present yourself." But PewDiePie in his video tells about forsed positive and encourages bloggers to show their true feelings.
