My future profession and career

What do you want to be when you grow up? We have heard this question many times during our school years. Perhaps, it was difficult for us to give a definite answer earlier. But now we understand that the time to choose our future profession has come. Finishing school is the beginning of an independent life for millions of school-leavers. Many roads are open before us: technical schools, colleges and universities. Centuries ago there were only a few jobs: people were farmers, bakers, butchers or carpenters. Today there are thousands of different kinds of jobs, and new ones are constantly appearing. No wonder that it is not an easy thing to make the right choice.

When choosing a future career, we should consider different factors. In my opinion, money is one of the most important factors when you make a choice. There are highly paid jobs and low-paid jobs. For example, a businessman, a president or a film star, are highly paid jobs. A worker, a doctor or an engineer, are low-paid jobs. I think everybody wants to earn as much money as possible. Training, promotional prospects and conditions should be also taken into account.

On the other hand, it's good when you get satisfaction from your job. It is very important to choose a profession that suits your interests. In my opinion, a job should be interesting and socially important. Some jobs are considered to be more suitable for men and others for women. For example, the professions of secretary or nurse are more suitable for women. A lifeguard or a pilot are more likely the jobs for men. You should also decide whether you want to work indoors or outdoors.

To make the right choice, you should take into account your traits of character. It goes without saying that to become a good doctor you must be patient, caring and kind. Teacher's work requires love for children, profound knowledge of subjects, and the ability to explain. A secretary has to be efficient and careful in order to do her work quickly and accurately. Salespeople need to be friendly and persuasive, to get people buy their products.

There are so many people who influence us in choosing our occupation. Parents and friends play a very important role in our choices.

My father works for an international company as a managing director. It is a highly paid job and it offers a lot of opportunities. You can travel abroad and meet different people. My father is a friendly person and he is easy to talk to. He thinks that I must choose my future profession according to my taste and preferences. I respect him and I want to become a businessman, too.

I have always been interested in economics and I am good at Maths. I have an aptitude for working with people, and I think I'm rather communicative and have good social skills. I have good analytical abilities and I am good at problem-solving. Besides, I am good at English. English has become the standard language for all kinds of international business communications. To know English today is absolutely necessary for every businessman.

Talents and Skills to Become a Good Hairdresser

Anyone can cut hair. But not anyone can be a good hairdresser. It is not rocket science to learn the techniques of cutting and coloring hair, but it takes so much more to be really good in this exciting profession. Beauty school and / or an apprenticeship in a good salon can give you all the tools that you need, but what will make you different than anyone else and help you succeed, are your personal talents, skills and inclinations.
 
Let me begin however with the most important ingredient. It is neither a skill nor a talent. It is the driving energy that makes us good at anything we do and without it, we would not even have fun working. It is passion. To be an excellent hairdresser you have to love what you do. If you dream it, live it and can’t get enough of it, then you have the perfect start.
 
Passion leads to enthusiasm, which besides being wonderfully contagious is the basis for any artistic and creative work. Without those inner sparks no great work can be come to life.
 
And yes, you should be an artist. Even simple styles require a feeling for balance and a steady hand.
 

 
Be a sculptor. Sculptors have to be able to see what they want to produce in a mass of unshaped material. As Michelangelo put it once: “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Do you see the style and finished look in the mass of hair?
 
Be a painter. Understand not only the basics but also the magic of mixing colors, combining color profiles, using light and shadow as well as interactions of warm and cold colors next to each other – for example when hair is colored in different tones and with contrasting hues. Be able to apply paint with a brush in a targeted and controlled way and to create smooth transitions between the shades.
 
Be a designer. Some people are more creative than others who rather stay on the safe side and repeat what others have done before. Creativity is not only necessary to create the extravagant and postmodern looks we see on the catwalks. As a creative person you see things that others don’t. It is as simple as that. In your mind you are able to visualize all kinds of shapes and colors and put them together. It is a big challenge to help someone to find the perfect look and to give advice. If you only have a small repertoire of hairstyles that you are comfortable with and cannot think outside the box, your success will be limited as well.
 
Be a great listener. No matter how creative or artistically and technically advanced you are, it won’t do any good unless your customer is happy. And they are only happy when they leave the salon more beautiful than they came in and feel that all of their wishes were fulfilled. To understand the wants and needs of someone you have to listen carefully to what they say and also understand what they are not saying. This is where the next item on this list comes in:
 

Be a psychologist. Know what to do with the information that you heard. Put two and two together. Listen between the lines and understand the motivation of your customers. You have to be able to build a rapport with your customers and get to know them. Understand what they mean when they talk about the “transformation” of their hair, which often means a transformation of themselves.
 
Especially women tend to visit hair salons with radical wishes like cutting long hair very short or applying an extreme color, when they actually want to change their life. Also, many people love to come to a salon just to get some personal attention and to talk to someone, be it about celebrity gossip or about more personal issues. This gives being a hairdresser a whole other dimension that is not mentioned in schools and during training, same as a bartender does not only pour drinks. A good one listens and anticipates.
 
Remember, you don’t just cut and color hair. You give customers a new appearance, a new feeling about themselves, a new confidence and attitude. This all comes with great responsibility and it is extremely important to understand your customer and to have the social and communication skills to avoid any misunderstandings.
 
Be strong. How do you deal with problems or stress? To be a hairdresser and especially a good one means to be exposed to many types of pressure. No matter how good you are, there will be unhappy customers and perhaps one or the other technical mistake. Learn to be a positive problem solver and find good solutions. You want people to come back to you and they will if they feel that you take them seriously and care about how they feel.
 
Be fit. Your dream profession is physically demanding. You will be on your feet and moving around all day and therefore need to be in good shape. You would not be a happy hairdresser with aching joints and swollen feet. So keep exercising regularly, eat healthy and make sure to wear good shoes.
 
Be a perfectionist. Once the hair is cut it is gone and it will take a while to come back. Hone your skills and strive for perfection and never settle for “good enough”. Know your products inside and out. Never stop learning and never rest on your laurels.
 
Be glamorous. One way to gain the trust of your customers is to look rather spectacular yourself. No one will feel confident in the chair and under the scissors of a drab stylist who did not even manage to control his or her own hair that morning.
 
All of the above points will make customers find you special enough to come back to you. And that is not only a base for your business, but also a great motivation that will help you get better and better at what you do, while you enjoy every minute of it.
 This type of work stays interesting since you'll have a different scenario each time and can expect to do some fancy and outrageous looks that will demand your full creativity. The only downside is that you never know when your phone will ring and there are often days and weeks with just a little work and on other times you will get swamped with requests.
 
Depending on the kind of work the photographer does and your skills of self-marketing, this could also be your ticket to do some really high end work for fashion magazines and big television commercials, which would, of course, look spectacular on your resume!
 
For Weddings
 
Can you handle a jittery bride on the verge of a nervous breakdown who might harm you badly if her hair is not the most beautiful on her special day? Do you have a calming aura and can work under high pressure? Get in touch with the wedding planners in your area and convince them of your qualifications.
 
Make sure to know all about elaborate, glamorous looks and of course the latest trends. A portfolio is essential to get new jobs. Usually you will also be asked to style the bridesmaids and the mothers of bride and groom. Great pay, lively environment and a lot of emotional moments come with this line of work.
 
For Runways or Movies 
 
Session styling does not fall into anyone's lap and it takes special skill and artistry to get hairstyles ready for the camera and the red carpet. A good way to get into this is to start locally and hone your skills, prepare a breathtaking portfolio and then start creating your network and knock on some doors. You'll never know which one may open. You may have to move to a bigger city.
 
Take a training class that will give you the background and specific knowledge for this type of work. Most of those courses and workshops will also provide you with high end photos of your creations that you can use in your portfolio. You will move in the dazzling world of models, designers and even celebrities, but have to be able to work well under a lot of pressure and with stressed out people.

Work at your own time and in different places each day! With all your equipment packed neatly in easy to transport cases and a good vehicle, you are able to visit your clients at home. This is a service that is often asked for by the elderly or by very busy people who don't have time to go to the salon.
 
You have to do your own advertising and most likely it will be word of mouth and online ads that will bring you the most clients. If you are good they will call you again. You are only responsible for yourself and have very low overhead costs. If your business and management skills are good, then this type of hair job will give you a lot of freedom and the potential for much growth.
 
To find out more about the different opportunities, do some research online, talk to other hair artists and join online hairdressing groups in your area. Many gigs are posted on websites like craigslist, twitter or Facebook and two of the biggest keys to starting your freelance success are a convincing, professional portfolio that highlights all of your skills and a good network of people. Occupational Diseases Among Hairdressers

People don't often think of hairdressers as having dangerous jobs. If anything, people are likely to think that a hairdresser's client is at more risk of injury or problem as a result of an improperly performed service than the hairdresser coming to harm. However, in studies on Occupational Disorders and Diseases common among hairdressers, the results show that many hairdressers (as many as 1 out of every five, in some studies) suffer from an illness directly related to their occupation.
 
These conditions range from allergies, rashes and irritations caused by prolonged or repeated exposure to chemicals, or frequent hand washing, to infections contracted from clients who have hair and scalp disorders. Some of these conditions are common and while nuisance level, are not life-threatening. Others can be life-long illnesses and dangerous if ignored or undiagnosed.
 
Studies done in Eastern Europe a few years ago showed that in nearly 70% of the patients (all in the hairdressing field) who were given patch tests for a variety of substances common to the hairdressing profession showed a positive test result for sensitivity (allergic reaction) to one or more of the substances.

      People from all parts of the world, of both sexes, decide that they want to become a hairdresser. Some do it simply because they love working with hair. They are the ones who, as children, spent hours brushing, combing, braiding and generally playing with the hair of any long-haired relative who would sit still long enough. They have the “calling” to be hairdressers.
 
      Others see hairdressing simply as one of their options in life. They have had lots of practice with their own hair, or with friends’ hair, and probably know a hairdresser who is a friend or family member.       Regardless of what brings them to consider a career in hairdressing, every candidate will need training, and these candidates will have different expectations from a hairdressing career.       Some people see hairdressing as a way to gain notoriety. They want to be on the front lines of the trendsetters, and see hairdressing as a way to make a name for themselves in their communities. These people enjoy being the one others consider the expert on matters of style and beauty.
 
Pros and Cons of Being a Hairdresser
 
No matter what brings you to want to be a hairdresser, or what you expect from a hairdressing career, there are good and bad points about this path. Just like any career or occupation, there are going to be things you will and won’t like about hairdressing. Here are some of the pros (good things) about being a hairdresser:
 
      •  People – Being a hairdresser is all about serving clients. Because of this, you will come in contact with lots of different people every day. This keeps your job fresh, challenging and rewarding, since it gives you a constant source of opportunities to show someone else just what you can do for them.
 
      •  Flexibility – As a hairdresser, you can choose how you practice your profession. You can work for someone else, or for yourself. You can make your hours a regular 9 to 5, or work by appointment only, setting appointments at whatever times are convenient for you and your clients.

      •  Competition – Competition isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it is something all potential hairdressers have to contend with. Every year, hundreds and thousands of new hairdressers will become licensed in your area. Often, a client will not be concerned about switching to a different stylist for whatever reason comes to mind, regardless of how good the service you gave was. You will have some clients who are loyal and who will come to you for their needs exclusively, provided you offer good service. However, every potential client you see will be courted by every other hairdresser. If you let it bother you, you can easily become discouraged.
 
      •  Continuing Education – After you’ve been trained and licensed, your education in the beauty industry is far from over. There are new techniques constantly being developed, as well as new products and processes that have to be learned in order to stay current with trends and styles. A hairdresser who sits back and rests on his or her laurels will soon find his business waning. In some areas, state and regional licensing boards require that you take continuing education courses in order to renew your license and continue practicing your trade legally.
 
      If you’re serious about pursuing a career in hairdressing, be sure to consider all the pros and cons of the job, and never think that hairdressing is an easy job. Like any other career, you will have aspects of the job that you will find good and bad. Кем ты хочешь стать, когда вырастишь? Этот вопрос мы слышим много раз на протяжении школьных лет. Может быть, раньше и трудно было дать ответ на этот вопрос, но сейчас пришло время выбрать свою будущую профессию. Окончание школы – это начало самостоятельной жизни для многих выпускников. Много дорог  открыто перед нами: можно продолжать учиться в колледже или университете или сразу идти работать, а учиться в процессе работы. Если у людей раньше был небольшой выбор( фермер, пекарь, плотник, лавочник), то сейчас тысячи профессий, и появляются все новые, поэтому нет ничего удивительного, что сделать правильный выбор не так просто.

При выборе будущей карьеры мы должны рассмотреть различные факторы. Например, деньги. Всем хочется зарабатывать как можно больше, поэтому при выборе нужно принять во внимание условия работы и перспективы профессионального роста. Но с другой стороны, хорошо, когда ты получаешь удовлетворение от своего труда. Важно выбрать профессию, которая соответствует твоим интересам и в то же время важна для общества.

Какие-то виды деятельности подходят больше для мужчин, а какие-то для женщин. Например, работа секретаря больше подходит для женщин, а работа пилота - для мужчин. Также надо решить, хочу ли я работать в помещении или вне его. Чтобы сделать правильный выбор нужно учитывать черты своего характера. Например, работа врача требует терпения, сострадания, доброты и умения слушать пациента. Учитель должен любить детей,  знать свой предмет и уметь его объяснить, секретарь должен быть стресс устойчивым, работать быстро и быть внимательным с бумагами, а продавец должен уметь убеждать купить их продукт и быть дружелюбным с покупателями, даже если его товар не покупают.

На выбор профессии очень сильно влияет окружающие люди: родители, родственники и друзья.

Я не знаю, откуда пришло ко мне это решение – быть парикмахером. Этот выбор корнями уходит в далекое детство, когда я часами могла расчесывать длинные волосы кому-то из родственников, плести из них косу или просто выдумывать какие- то свои прически, если удавалось заставить «клиента» сидеть достаточно долго. Эта детская игра с волосами переросла в желание делать людей красивее и счастливее. Естественно, я начала практиковаться на своих друзьях, близких родственниках. Мне нравилось делать то, что требовало художественного глаза и творческого начала. Многие говорили, что у меня призвание.

Сейчас я понимаю, что одного призвания мало. Мне нужно многому научиться. Я знаю, что даже простые прически требуют чувство соразмерности, симметрии, художественности, а также твердую, «набитую» руку.

РЕШАЙ

Прежде, чем остановить свой выбор на этой профессии, я захотела больше узнать о ней. Может быть, что-то узнав, я изменю свое решение.

Минусы и плюсы  работы.

Минусы. Большая конкуренция. Каждый год появляются  амбициозные  молодые люди, которые хотят заработать много денег и стать популярными и пользоваться признательностью у клиентов. Поэтому, когда ваш клиент переходит к другому мастеру, вам будет обидно, и, если вы будете расстраиваться по такому поводу, то у вас опустятся руки. Профессиональные заболевания, такие как: аллергия, сыпь, раздражение кожи, связанные с использованием химических красителей или   с частым мытьем рук. Различные кожные заболевания могут передаться от клиентов. Так как работа на ногах, ноги к концу дня могут отекать, что приводит к варикозному заболеванию.

Плюсы. Люди. Так как вы постоянно обслуживаете клиентов, вы вступаете в контакт с множеством разных людей каждый день. И это дает вам шанс показать кому-то еще, что вы можете сделать для них. Гибкость. Вы можете работать каждый день по установленному графику или в назначенное клиенту время. Вы можете работать на себя, в своей мастерской, в любое удобное для вас время

Кроме этого, нужно иметь или развивать такие способности:

Быть скульптором. Скульпторы способны уже видеть, что они хотят сотворить в массе бесформенного материала.

Быть художником. Уметь работать с красками, умело подбирать цвета, оттенки, тени, а также переход от одного цвета к другому.

Быть дизайнером. Иметь творческий подход ко всему, что ты создаешь. Видеть то, что не видят другие. В голове визуализировать все виды форм и цветов и уметь совместить их вместе. Изменить прежний имидж, создать новый.

Быть внимательным слушателем. Уметь слушать клиента. Понять, чего он ждет от вашего мастерства, чтобы он ушел счастливым.

Быть психологом. Уметь слушать  и понять между строк  мотивацию клиента, или понять, что он хочет. Некоторые приходят в салон, чтобы поговорить о личных проблемах или получить внимание или совет.

Быть физически крепким. Так как работа требует физических затрат, нужно быть в хорошей форме. Регулярные физические упражнения, здоровое питание и удобная обувь просто необходимы.

Быть самой эффектной и привлекательной. Этим самым вы даете клиенту чувствовать себя уверенным. Он будет знать, что попал в хорошие руки.

ДЕЙСТВУЙ

Прочитав всю информацию, я долго над ней размышляла. Желание быть стилистом – парикмахером не пропадало. Я более серьезно стала относиться к своему выбору. Я поняла, что трудности преодолимы, нужно только действовать. Я буду и дальше продолжать делать то, что умею и одновременно учиться. В этой профессии нельзя останавливаться на достигнутом  умении, нужно все время совершенствоваться и развиваться. Курсы мастеров - стилистов, дизайнерские курсы на компьютере, практика в салонах – то, что ждет  меня впереди. А дальше я бы хотела поработать и с фотографами для их моделей, в свадебных салонах и даже в собственной мастерской.

У каждой работы есть плюсы и минусы. Несмотря на минусы, о которых я узнала, я хочу быть обученным, лицензированным стилистом-парикмахером и работать в индустрии красоты. Я рассмотрела все за и против. Я не думаю, что это легкая работа. И зная все плюсы и минусы, я уверена, что эта работа для меня. Я присоединяюсь к миллионной  армии людей такой же профессии, которые ставят задачу сделать мир прекраснее, хотя  бы одним клиентом, который обратился к ним.
