THE MOST POPULAR TOURIST ATTRACTIONS OF NEW ZEALAND
When talking about New Zealand, we firstly imagine green meadows, lots of sheep and cows, big volcanos. The beautiful land is located in the south-western part of the Pacific Ocean and has an honored title “motherland of active and extreme tourism”.
Wellington is the capital of New Zealand. The land’s symbols are big ferns and the kiwi bird. Waterfalls and geysers, glaciers, lakes – the islands are full of wonderful and magic places to see. You can watch the whales, admire the mighty fjords or go bungee-jumping. I would like to tell you about seven most interesting landmarks, that every tourist has to visit here.
1. THE ROTORUA VALLEY
The “Hot water-country”, how it is called in their language, is located on the volcanic plateau, so there is a very big thermal activity. The valley is famous among tourists all over the world for its five-meter high geysers and mud bogs. There are a lot of built resorts that you can visit in case you want to improve your health with springs water or mud baths.
Everybody, who has once seen the magic trilogy “The Lord of the rings” or the film “Hobbit” wants to get to this fairytale. And it’s quite easy to realize it. The village of small pretty houses covered with green fluffy blankets is placed among endless fields and can be visited by every tourist. Bilbo Baggins began his adventure to the Lonely mountain in the company of the wizard Gandalf and the dwarves from here. The village was built on the site of a sheep farm, so these grazing animals are common in Hobbiton. By the way, you can feed them or watch the process of sheep shearing.
New Zealand is an economically advanced country, despite the remoteness of markets and the lack of oil and gas. One of the main sources of income is tourism. So it is the gold. The valuable metal can be found in the rivers. If you want to try yourself as a gold digger, come to any gold-mining center. The guide will give you a strainer and a bulb for collecting gold, which you'll take home as a souvenir.
While travelling in New Zealand, you can take a unique opportunity to meet the ancient Maori folk. In their language the word “māori” means "normal", "natural" or "usual". Before the Maori came under the influence of Europeans, they formed an interesting and unique culture. Extraordinary customs and symbols, the Haka dance, woodcarving and tattoos – that’s all Maori. You’ll watch the ceremony of receiving guests and the process of tattooing, learn their battle dance and enjoy the traditional music and food.
Maori believed that the Punakaiki, or Pancake rocks were a place of feasting. The name “Punakaiki” in their language means “source of food”. Amazing rocks are formed like a stack of pancakes and belong to the national park Paparoa. They are more than 3000000 years old and deserve to be named the eighth wonder of the world. National Park Paparoa was created in 1987 to protect the unique geological formations.
Waitomo cave is one of the places not to be missed by researching New Zealand. It’s a true masterpiece of nature. Once on the site of present caves reigned the ocean. The water has created the mysterious intricacies of the tunnels and grottoes. Starry heaven in a cave – incredibly, isn’t it? Millions of fireflies are hanging above you and glowing in the dark. While you’re floating in the boat through this magical work of nature, it seems like you’re in a fairy tale.
It is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere. The height of the Sky Tower in Auckland is 328 meters and you can reach the top on the unique high-speed elevator. On the upper floors there are three observation decks with an amazing view. The bravest can try the sky jumping – falling down from the height of 192 meters. The flight lasts about 11 seconds and runs at a speed of about 85 km/h. The flight ends with a smooth landing in the Sky City Plaza. It is so safe, that this service can be used by guests of almost any age. In addition the Sky Tower has several restaurants, hotels and casinos.
In conclusion I’d like to say that the whole nature of New Zealand is a big landmark to be explored; actually it doesn’t matter where to go, you’ll wonder all around yourself. Come and relax in the world full of adventure and miracles!
