Love for pets One more tradition is love the English give to their pets. There are pets in almost every house and the English treat them carefully. It seems that they adore pets even more than their own children, forgiving them such tricks for which the children would be properly punished.

5 o'clock tea. As a rule, there is tea, milk or cream, sugar, bread and butter, cakes and jam on a table. Friends and visitors are often invited for a cup of tea .

Pancake Day Pancake Day or Shrove Tuesday is held in February or March . It is the day , preceding Ash Wednesday – the first day of the 40 days Lent . It has been celebrated in Britain for centuries.On Pancake Day children go from house to house asking for a pancake . “ Pancake races ” are held all over Britain . Contestants have to race with frying pans tossing and flipping pancakes in the air .

Typical sports and games British sports are also traditional. National games and sports are considered to be golf,polo , cricket, tennis,fishing and hunting foxes. Cricket for the British is more than a game. They play it every Sunday. If you really want to win their trust, try to learn the rules of cricket.

Marble Championship Marble championship is an annual event which takes place on Good Friday . The participating teams , consisting of six members , have to knock out the marbles from the raised concrete ring . The winner gets a silver cup .

It is a wonderful tradition to give a good education to children. Private boarding schools are very popular with wealthy people .

The British are very proud of their pure English (especially in comparison with the U.S.). English for the English - not just a means of distinguishing themselves from the foreigners. It is also a way to determine the class of society you belong to.
