  Peter the First

(The Great)

   Peter I was born on the 30th of May, 1672 in Moscow in Kolomenskoe.

   He was crowned in 1682.

   Peter I began to build mane ships.

   He went to Holland to study shipbuilding and worked there himself.

   After Asov battles against Turkey and Tatars in the Crimea he sent a lot of Russian young men to Europe to study.

   He visited many countries: England, Germany, Holland, Austria and France.

   Since 1700 he began to build the Russian Empire.

      Peter I began to build St. Petersburg on the Neva (1704).

   He organized the gun factory in Tula. In front of the plant we can see the monument to Peter I.

   In 1722 he became the Imperator.

     Peter I was very ill and caught cold in November and died on the 22nd of January, 1725. After his death his wife Catherina became the Empress in 1725.
