Kettlewell’s Scarecrow Festival Kettlewell's Scarecrow Festival is an annual event in the idyllic Yorkshire Dales. During this week long event villagers comes with the most outlandish scarecrow designs ever. Visitors to the festival can spend the day wandering around the village enjoying the scarecrows and they can also take part in a treasure hunt.

Notting Hill Carnival The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event that since 1966 has taken place on the streets of Notting Hill, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, London, UK each August, over three days (the August bank holiday Monday and the two days beforehand). It is led by members of the West Indian community. The carnival has attracted around one million people in the past years, making it one of the largest street festivals in the world. The carnival's traditional starting point has been Emslie Horniman's Pleasance in nearby Ladbroke Grove.

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is held annually during August in Bristol, England. Teams from the UK and other parts of the world bring their hot air balloons to the site and participate in mass ascents where as many as 100 balloons may launch at a time. History Popular event

History The event was first held in 1979 and is now one of the largest in Europe. It is common to have crowds of over 100,000 on each of the four days of the festival. It takes place in a large country estate Ashton Court. Mass launches are made twice a day, at 6am and 6pm, subject to weather conditions. Back

Popular attraction One popular attraction is the night glow, when balloons are inflated and glow to music after dark. These are held on the opening Thursday night at approximately 9:30pm, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. There is another night glow at the same time followed by the fireworks on the Saturday night. Some people see these as the highlight of the fiesta.

Harrogate Flower Show The Harrogate Flower Shows are widely regarded as the UK's largest and most prestigious independent gardening events. Farmers show their masterpieces, share the secrets of gardening and horticulture, and take part in training programs for the visitors.

Live and Unsigned is a music competition in the United Kingdom for unsigned bands, vocal groups and solo acts to perform live. It was founded in 2007, and has attracted over 10,000 attendants annually since its inception. Competitors perform in their own style to a paying audience and judging panel. The competition tours the UK holding auditions in various regions, and the Grand National Final is held at The O2 in London .

Dartington International Summer School is a five week summer school and festival of music held on the medieval estate of Dartington Hall . It was established in 1948. The summer school caters for anyone who wants to enjoy music from conservatoire students and young professionals to enthusiastic amateurs. Famous musicians teach and perform concerts in the evenings. The summer school works with different styles from classical music to other genres such as digital, jazz and folk. Artists and participants stay in the Dartington Estate, with concerts taking place mainly in the old medieval banqueting hall now known as the Great Hall. Classes are taught around the medieval courtyard and in the studio that used to be part of Dartington College of Arts.

Hard Rock Calling is an annual music festival, formerly held in Hyde Park, London, from 2006 until 2012, and from 2013 in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. The music played is primarily rock music, and various musicians, including Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, The Who, Bon Jovi , Aerosmith, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen have played at the event. The festival is organised by Hard Rock Cafe.

The Stockton International Riverside Festival is an annual outdoor arts festival in Stockton-on-Tees, England. It unites UK and international performers and since 1991 it includes the Stockton Weekender, an event aimed at local musicians and comedians.

Festival history The first Stockton Riverside Festival was founded by Frank Wilson and the first festival took place in August 1988. The centrepiece was Circus Burlesque’s big top show. 24 years later, the Stockton International Riverside Festival has grown into an internationally famous event that attracts thousands of spectators. The North-East section of travel website iknow -UK calls it 'One of the North East's top summer family festivals'.

The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is a performing arts festival that takes place near Pilton , Somerset, England, best known for its contemporary music, but also for dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts. The festival organiser Michael Eavis , a farmer in a Somerset valley stated that he decided to host the first festival after seeing an open air Led Zeppelin concert at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music in 1970. Fourteen people invested everything they had to build the stage.

The first festival was in 1970 and was influenced by hippie festival movement. After the 1970s the festival took place almost every year and grew in size. Leading pop and rock artists have appeared as headline acts with thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas. The festival is reported on television and in newspapers. The festival is held over three or four days in the open air, with performers, crew and audience staying in tents and motorhomes . It is now attended by around 150,000 people requiring special infrastructure in terms of security, transport, water and electricity supply. The majority of staff are volunteers, helping the festival to raise millions of pounds for good causes.

So the festival culture in the United Kingdom is highly developed. There are a lot of people in the UK who like visiting festivals. They all have great fun. Unfortunately it isn’t true about the festivals held in Russia.
