The Hero City is located on the right bank of the Volga River. The city was founded in 1589 as a fortress. From 1589 to 1925 it was called Tsaritsyn, from 1925 to 1961 - Stalingrad.

Battle of Stalingrad. July 17, 1942 there began one of the greatest battles of the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War. The Battle of Stalingrad lasted 200 days and nights. February 2, 1943 the Sixth Army surrendered.
