Education in Britain At the age of 3 or 4 some children go to a nursery school or a kindergarten. They learn such things as numbers, letters, colours, and may begin to read and write there. Children start primary school at 5,6 or 7 and continue until they are 11 or 12. Primary education takes place in infant schools and junior schools. At the age of 11 or 12 children go to a secondary school. Compulsory secondary education lasts 5 years. Traditionally secondary schools are divided into 5 years called forms ( from 1 to 5).
