Задачи: Найти в справочниках, интернет - ресурсах информацию о происхождении названия города, его историческом прошлом. Изучить героическое прошлое города. Подобрать наиболее красочные фотографии города, отражающие историю, религию и современную жизнь людей Подготовить презентацию по собранным материалам.

History. The first record of Vyazma you can find in the Russian chronicle. It is dated to 1239. The name of the town has several versions. Some people say that Vyazma is situated on the marshy place. Others think that it connected Dnepr, Volga and Dvina. The most interesting version is that many years ago there lived a tribe “ vesi” which gave the name to the town.

Commercial center. Vyazma was a part of the Smolensk principality. It was one of the most important commercial centers. The market was famous for its cattle, beaver and forged pieces.

Religious town. Vyazma is famous for its churches and monasteries. Unfortunately many of them were destroyed and some were restored.

St. Troitskiy Cahedral. It is the main cathedral of the town which is situated on Soborniy hill. There are a lot of ancient valuable icons. In the past it was called Nikolskiy Cathedral. Simeon Vyazemskiy and his wife were buried there.

The church of the most Holy Mother of God. Not far from St. Troitskiy Cathedral you can see the church of the most Holy Mother of God. It was built on congregations’ money. Now it is a museum. It was opened on material base gathered by the staff of school №5 .

Odigitrievskaya church. Odigitrievskaya church is situated in the yard of Ioanno-Predtechev monastery. It’s unique for its three-cone style. Such kinds of churches are only two: in Uglich and in Vyazma.

Destroyed churches. Peter and Paul Cathedral. Church of Great Martyr Ekaterina.

Modern monuments. People’s Artist of Russia Papanov was born in Vyazma in 1922. He is famous for his roles in such films as “ Diamond Hand”, “12 chairs” and others. The monument was opened on his 90 th anniversary.

The tower with a clock. The height of the tower is 6 meters. The main feature of this monument is the secular bird on the top of the gun. The tower is the main clock of the town.

The town of military fame. Our town suffered a lot from wars. In 2009 it was instated the name of “ The town of military fame”. There are a great number of monuments which remember us about those dreadful days.

Spasskaya tower The Kremlin of Vyazma appeared in the 17 th century. People needed the defence from Lithuanians and Poles. The tower was built of wood, but despite this fact it used to be very reliable. Vyazma became the front fortress of Moscow.

The monument to Pernovskiy regiment This monument was set up to Pernovskiy regiment in 1912. During the First World War the regiment attacked Napoleon’s army and set the town free from enemies.

The monument to the heroes of 1812 This monument symbolizes the courage and virtue of our predecessors. On the top of the monument you can see an eagle with two heads. It tears the French banner with the help of its left head and its right head turns eyes to the west where the enemies have retreated.

The second World War. The General Efremov was one of the most outstanding commanders. He was respected for his soldierly professionalism, durability and patriotism. He withdrew 40 thousand soldiers out of German encirclement. The General was seriously injured in the battle. It is known when Efremov was buried by Germans, their commander said:”Fight for your country as heroic as Efremov did”.

Stella. This monument was built in 2009 in honor of heroic victories and courage of our soldiers in the war of 1812 and the Great Patriotic War. Vyazma was the main point which kept enemies and didn’t give them to attack Moscow.

Выводы. Вязьма - уникальный культурно-исторический город. Вязьма имеет большое значение в истории. Религиозные памятники вызывают интерес туристов. Город постоянно развивается и обогащается новыми культурными постройками. Люди помнят и чтят историю города.
