In 1942 Ivan Stepanovich fought in the 47th special mortar regiment , then in the 297th Slavic Division and the 32th Red Banner Tank Brigade. He was wounded four times. The most serious wound was a foot injury. So he went from Karaganda hospital with crutches. The military card and the Book of Red Army were saved , but were stained with blood.
