Volzhsk is a town in central Russia. It's located on the left side of the river Volga, 100 km south of Yoshkar-Ola, the capital of our republic.

Early on the spot of this town was a village Polki , then it turned into a village Lopatino . In 1940 the village became a town, and the town was named Volzhsk.

First it was built Mari pulp-and-paper combinate (also known as MPPC) and houses were built around it. In 1940 there were 19 streets, 1074 buildings and 2 banks.

The first mayor of Volzhsk was V. N .Gavrilov . Now mayor of our town is Nicolay Grigorievich Senchenko

The oldest schools of Volzhsk are schools № 1, 3, 5 and 9.

During World War II on the Volga enterprises military orders were carried out. Volzhsk's people worked very hard, doing everything possible to win.

We conducted a survey among students in our class. They were asked: "Do you know the history of our town?” Most of them answered that they know the history of the town, but not very good. Third of respondents said they don’t know the history of Volzhsk. Nobody knows it good.

We also asked students whether they want to leave town after graduation, and whether they like our town. Results are shown in histograms.

Town has a lot of things for self-development of young people: sports school of Olympic reserve, a large stadium, art and music schools and the Ice Palace. In Volzhsk there are a few schools, lyceums and colleges; also there are branches of various universities.

Shops, cafes and clubs are building in Volzhsk. Town is developing rapidly large compared to past years, and there are various companies in town.

Palace of Culture MPPC was the first entertainment center of Volzhsk. Also there was a movie theater named “Homeland”.

Among Volzhsk's and republic's companies in particular stand out " MarBum ” and CJSC " Ariada ", led by the Victor Grigorievich Vasilyev . Victor Vasilyev is an honorary citizen of Volzhsk for his outstanding achievements in the spheres of economy, industry, culture and sports.

CJSC " Ariada " produces refrigeration equipment and building materials, supplies them to other cities of Russia and cooperates with the largest enterprises in Europe. With an investment of " Ariada “ hotel, restaurant and first in the republic Ice Palace were built. Currently business center " Ariada " is building.

Mari pulp-and-paper combinate is one of the biggest manufacturers of technical types of paper. Also there are Joint Stock Companies “Meta” and “ Zarya ”, which produce different types of furniture and woodwork.
