Plavsk through history. There are 714 small towns in Russia. Plavsk is one of them. It is connected with the history of our country during 400 years. It stands on the River Plava.

Slobodas At first it was named Krapivenskaya Sloboda ( 1570- 1580) , then Sergievskoe. Our town is connected with the Gagarins. By the end of the 18 century there was a knight usadjba with 3 hectares of land, stone house, wooden trade rows, water мельница The Russian tsar appreciated the Gagarins greatly. Sergievskoe was situated between Msensk, Tula , Kursk , Moscow. In 1868 a railway was through Sergievskoe. In the 19 century Sergievskoe consists of some slobodas Buyanovka, Vyselki, Tuzhilovka,Popovka, Krapivenka, Nizovka. About 3 thousand people lived there at that time.

The Gagarins usadjba By the end of the 19 century the Gagarins usadjba increased up to 15 hectares. There was a beautiful park, a pond with a fontane and fishes. In 1890 –s they began to build a hospital , then three works.

Sergievskoe in the past By 1912 Sergievskoe had 3 schools, volost government, 2 water and 9 power mills, 3 works, 3 smithys, 4 workshops, a post office, a police, stone trade rows.

Sergievskoe in the wars During the wars Sergievskoe was always in the centre of battles. The 19 th of December is the day of liberation of our district from fascists.

The Cathedral of Sergiy Radonezhskiy The Cathedral of Sergiy Radonezhskiy was built by 1774. People were surprised by its greatness and white -stoned iconostas.

Old Plavsk A lot of traders lived and worked in Sergievskoe. ( Sazonov, Cheryomushkin, Okunev, Grachyov, Shipilov etc) Some Plavsk houses are very old .

Plavsk nowadays. About 20 thousand people live in Plavsk. The territory of Plavsk is 600 hectares. A serious problem of our district is the Chernobyl step, because of the radiation.
