G eneral information It is the only kind of chipmunks living in Eurasia (the others are found in North America). Chipmunk - small (smaller than normal squirrels), svelte mammal with a slender elongated body. In winter, the Siberian chipmunk eats seeds of coniferous and deciduous trees. In the spring and summer – shoots, berries, mushrooms, grains. He also can feed on insects and mollusks. Since August he begins to store food for the winter, wearing it in the cheek pouches.

He climbs trees very well, but always lives in shallow simple burrows. In the burrow is usually two cameras – female and pantry. Summer suits nests in tree stumps, roots of trees, sometimes in low hollows and birdhouse. Chipmunks live alone, each on its site. In one burrow, two chipmunks do not get along ; captive adult chipmunks, planted in a one cage fight.
