CONTEMPORARY IN THE PAST « Garage – the Center of Contemporary A rt » The Center of Contemporary Art was founded in 2008. It is housed in the building of the garage for buses (bus depot). The building was designed by famous architect Konstantin Melnikov in 1929. This building has got the status of the monument of architecture.

For quite a long time the building was not used. And then some people decided to organize an art gallery there. Many different exhibitions has been housed there! All Garage exhibitions are always creative and interesting. One of the most interesting events was « The Third Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art ». Artists from all over the world participated in that exhibition. There were more than 80 artists from more than 25 countries. One of the works presented a beautiful garden where the artist placed guitars and lots of birds who were flying and sitting down on the guitars so, that the guitars sounded. The whole installation presented a garden with the birds’ rock group. However sometimes the sound was not really good! One of the most beautiful works was the installation which presented a rain wall, where rain drops were writing different words.

There was another interesting exhibition from the private collection Francois Pineau. Art objects have been made of special materials. For example this heart has been made of bright red plastic cutlery. Another art object is this scalp, which is made from metal sauce-pans.

During the three years of its history The Center of Contemporary Art Garage has organized many exhibitions, which showed very different art objects : Paintings; Installations; Sculptures; Photos; Video art;
