There is no doubt that the statement “Health is above wealth” has deep roots. But there is a question: What can improve our health? Ask anybody and you will get the following answer: Sport. Only sport helps us be not only healthy but also achieve our goals, be self-determined, disciplined and responsible.

For millions of people and especially for sportsmen sport means taking part in sport competitions and winning. The main aim of theirs is to take part in the Olympic Games because the Olympic Games make them feel self-confident and self-esteemed. When I ask some sportsmen whether they would like to participate in the Olympiad, I always get the same answer: “It is my dream. It does not matter whether I will be a winner or only a participant. The greatest award is to demonstrate how mighty our country is, how willing our sportsmen are, how helpful and hospitable the Russian fans are”. That is why it is not a surprise that our country hosted sportsmen from all over the world in the summer 1980, when the XXII Summer Olympic Games were held in Moscow, the capital of Russia.  It is not a surprise either that Russia will be the host country of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. For the second time our country has proved to be the best and its people are really ready for such a great event.

The mascot of Moscow Olympiad was a brown bear (Mishka). The mascot of the Olympic Games in Sochi is three animals. They are the white bear, the hare and the leopard. These animals have much in common. All of them are symbols of strength and bravery. Like these animals Russian people are strong, brave and firm. In spite of all hardships Russia has become the winner in this hard competition. It is our first great victory. The next victories will be our gold, silver and bronze medals in the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Thirty-four years have passed since the XXII Summer Olympic Games took place in our country. Russia has changed much, but sport has always played, plays and will play the great role in everybody’s life.
