Hello! I’m England. Now I will tell you about three English celebrations. This is Mother's Day, May Day and Spring Day.
Mother’s Day.
It has roots in the Victorian era, when children from their early years worked away from the parents' house, and the money earned by them, was sent to the family. Then once a year the children were allowed to share the family shelter with their parents. Traditionally they gave their mothers and grandmothers small gifts: bouquets of flowers or fresh eggs. Now British children give their mothers flowers and do all the work about the house on that day. And for dinner the whole family has a Simnel cake.
May Day.
There are street festivals, parades and fairs on that day, and that is always different depending on where the Englishmen live. The tourists plunge into a completely different world of a medieval carnival: street musicians, circus performers, jugglers on stilts, songs and dances. And now a few words about the roots of the holiday and about the ways it is celebrated in different parts of the country.
Spring Day.
The first Monday in May is a public holiday called the Day of Spring. Englishmen associate the holiday with the legendary Robin Hood, and it is celebrated in the form of costumed processions and festivals.
