What is a meteorite? Meteorite is the body of cosmic origin , the ones on the surface of large celestial object. Meteorites have been found on the Moon and Mars . Meteorites that are recovered after being observed as they transit the atmosphere or impact the Earth are called meteorite fall.
Слайд 3
Historical background Russian chronicles meteorite was first mentioned in 1091 Meteorite falls may have been the source of cultish worship . The cult in the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus , one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World possibly originated with the observation of a meteorite fall which was understood by contemporaries to have fallen to the earth from the abode of deities.
Слайд 4
Although the use of the metal found in meteorites also is recorded in myths of many countries and cultures where the celestial source often was acknowledged, scientific documentation only began in the last few centuries.

A s meteorites fall to earth Falling meteorites always sudden, it can happen anywhere in any place at any time . In the sky after his flight remains swirling trail like smoke, and the dark cloud formed in the place where the bolid was gone . Meteoroid , bursting at the speed of 15-20 km / sec . Earth's atmosphere, is facing a very strong resistance of the air , already in the 100-120 km from the Earth .

Meteorite fall in Chelyabinsk Chelyabinsk meteorite destroyed by braking in the Earth's atmosphere February 15, 2013 at 9 hours and 20 minutes local time. Superbolides exploded in the vicinity of Chelyabinsk at an altitude of 15-25 km According to the number of casualties (1613 people), the incidence of this meteorite has no analogues in the world of recorded history .
Слайд 8
Most damage was reported in the Chelyabinsk region, although the incident allegedly led to minor damage in Russia’s Tyumen, Kurgan and Sverdlov regions, as well as in northern Kazakhstan. Until Chelyabinsk, NASA had looked only for space rocks about 30 metres wide and bigger, figuring there was little danger below that.

W hat consequences can be after the fall of meteorites Scientists estimate that 1-3 times in a million years on Earth falls meteorite crater generating a minimum width of 20 km . Thus, on this planet there are lots of structures generated by erstwhile collisions , given the length of the Earth's history (the Siberian crater Popigaj ) . Scientists built the first model , which takes into account the ellipticity of the Earth's shape.

Conclusion Meteorites are the oldest material of the solar system : they are fragments of small planets, asteroids. Analyzing the consistence of meteorites we can learn what physical and chemical processes occurred 4-5 billion years ago, when the sun and planets were born - about collisions of cosmic bodies and cosmic radiation. Thus we can conclude that meteorites are of great scientific value.
