Cuba official name - the Republic of Cuba, informally since 1959, Liberty Island - an island nation in the northern part of the Caribbean. The country occupies the island of Cuba as a part of the Greater Antilles, the Isle of Youth and many smaller islands. From North America, Cuba is separated Florin a Strait in the north and the Yucatan Channel in the west. The country is a member of the UN since 1945. The capital and largest city - Havana. Cuban territory - 110 860 km ². Island, which stretches from west to east at 1,250 km, is often compared to a lizard body which faces the Atlantic, and the tail is at the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico.
