The Ukraine has an ideal geographical position for the development of its resources, lying between 440 and 520 latitude north, on the same latitude as the USA, Britain. The climate is mild and warm, with a long summer and a short winter. Together with its fertile black soil, this makes it ideal for the development of intensive agricultur. The main part of the Ukraine is located in the watershed of the Dnieper-River, which divides the country into two parts: Right-Bank and Left-Bank Ukraine .

The capital is Kiev. The official language is Ukrainian.

It is an an independent democratic state. Its population is about 52 mln people. The Ukraine have its own-armed forces, and maintain its own diplomatic relations with foreign countries. In March 2010, Viktor Yanukovych was elected as a President of the Ukraine. Mykola Azarov –as a Prime Minister .

In the South it is washed by the Black and Azov Seas. It has borderland with Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova.

Most of the people are Orthodox Christians. On the territory of the Ukraine live large ethnic groups, such as: Belarusians (0.57%), Moldovans (0.54%), Crimean Tatars (0.51%), Bulgarians (0.42%), Hungarians (0.32%), Romanians (0.31%), Polish (0.30%).

The Ukraine is a rich farming, industrial and mining region in south-eastern Europe . The most of the citizens are the farmers, the Cossacks, the partisans .

Engagement It is a tradition go to a potential bride’s relatives, only males can do it. A bridegroom should bring a loaf of bread and a stick. During this ceremony the bride should be at home, standing near the stove. If she is agree to marry this young man she should cut the bread ,which was brought by bridegroom’s companion

As a rule, an engagement ceremony begins with binding the hands of the grain or bread.

And, of course, no Ukrainian wedding party can be without a round loaf of bread. Not every woman can bake such “karavay”, only those women who are successful in their family life can bake it. The baking process is accompanied by rituals, jokes and songs.

Ukrainian music goes back to the time of the ancient Russian state and its development includes virtually all types of music - folk and professional, academic and popular ones.

The distinctive national style is fully represented by the songs of the central Dnieper. They are characterized by melodic ornament, vocalization vowel harmonies - Aeolian, Ionian, Dorian. The Ukraine folk tradition is very close to Belarusian and Russian folklore.

Popular music is represented at the festival "Red Rue (the festival)," "Taurus Game," "The Seagull" and others
