Reading is important because it expands outlook, it helps to discover new things. Books can tell us about ancient times, interesting things, arts and fashions, lives of famous people, give information about other countries, their traditions and customs.

Научно-практическая конференция 2013 года
/Выступление Малинченко Елены, ученицы 7А класса по теме «Читать или не читать»/
Slide 1. I prepared some words about reading. Look at the first slide……“ To read or not to read”. Isn’t it a problem nowadays?
According to statistical data of the year 2000,Russia was the first nation in reading.Do we read as much as earlier? Let’s think about it.
Slide 2. Where do people get books now? At the Library? Is your home Library rich and how often do you take books to read? Can you download the book from the Net. I think so. But hardly ever everybody has an electronic book at home.
Slide3.I took the opinion poll from Moscow newspaper of the last year. They asked the passers only 1 question. «When did you buy your last book? ». Some of them didn`t want to answer. The most said they don`t buy books. The others bought the last book a week or a month ago. Others bought the last book three months ago, a half a year and more than year ago.
Slide 4. I was interested in this poll and I made my class` poll. There are 26 pupils in my class. I asked everybody “What kinds of literature do you usually read?” It happened that, the most read fiction, than comes horrors and love stories. Adventures are on the 3d place. To my surprise some read comedies and some enjoy reading traveling. Books by school programme are read by only half of my class-mates. And only few of them are interesting in poetry. And nobody reads fairy-tales.
So all my class-mates read smth, I should add ‘They read for pleasure‘
Slide 5. I would like to recite some words of famous people. …SAID……DECLARED…WROTE
McCosh- Scottish ancient philosopher
Slide 6.
I want to discuss the reasonsand obstacles of reading. You see People have different reasons to start reading. The main reasons of reading now are evident: to be more intellectual, to expends outlook, to get new knowledge, to enter the University. It helps to discover new things. Moreover, books can tell us about ancient times, interesting things, arts and fashion, the lives of famous people, give information about other countries, their traditions and customs, etc.
But there are some obsticles.
1) The lack of time-is the first obstacle
2) Laziness comes the second
3) Bad sight is the most frequent obstacle that prevents people from reading
Slide 7. Nevertheless people read books… Here you can see the most readable books. I suppose you remember from childhood such books as…….
Slide8. Now I want to ask you one question. Do you have a book which you will take with you to the island without people…. To the uninhabited island.
As for me I have such a book.
Slide 9. Margaret Mitchell is an author of this book.
It has become the best-seller. This book is read all over the world.
Slide 10. The Main character of the novel is a pretty woman. Her name is Scarlett O`Hara. At the beginning g of the novel she was 16 years old, she is flirt wealthy heiress estate, surrounded by love and care of her parents and many servants.
Slide 11. I like this novel very much…because Scarlett was a very strong woman and she never gave up… But at the same time she broke her love and her own life….
Slide 12. This novel is a tragedy… My advice is to read such a romantic story…..
Slide 13. Let’s return to the beginning of my project. I asked you… «To read or not to read?” Of course we say Yes…. To read…. Reading is for those who like this process, who want to be more intellectual, to get new knowledge and to enter the University.
It’s not a simple thing. I wish you to overcome difficulties and to find one but the best book which will help you in life.
Thank you.
