The topic of my work is Australia and its system of education.

      I think that it is very interesting to learn and speak foreign languages. I am sure that we shouldn’t learn only words and expressions but it is important to know some facts about the country which language we are studying. I have chosen to speak about Australia because we know very little about it and it is situated far away from us.

      I think that Australia is one of the most unusual countries in the world. I tried to find and read the articles about Australia in the internet, newspapers and books. I hope that this theme is very interesting not only for me but for other students too.

     The aim of my work is to show Australia as a unique country and to compare the educational system in Australia and Russia. We have the following tasks:

• To write about the most interesting facts from the history and present days of the country;
• To find the similarities and differences in the systems of education in Russia and Australia.

In my report I’ve written some interesting facts to show that Australia is an unusual country. It was under the rule of the British Empire for a hundred year. The original settlers were Aborigines. In spite of the British influence the country preserved its unique features, such as culture, languages and traditions. The flag with small Union Jack represents the historical link with Britain, the stars represent 6 States. The emblem shows 2 symbols of Australian Fauna – a kangaroo and an emu.

The Australian boomerang was firstly developed as a hunting instrument. Now it is well-known all over the world and has become a symbol of Australia.

And now I want to tell you about the system of education in Australia. It should be noted that the system of education in Australia and in Russia has much in common. We have the same stages of education: Primary, Secondary and Higher, but different types of schools and subjects.

            We have similar structures of school academic years (3-4 terms) but there is difference in vocations and uniform. In Australia school year begins in February, in Russia it begins in September. This is because of the geographical position of Australia and Russia. In Australia there are 2- week- holidays between terms, but in Russia there is usually 1-week- holidays

Colors of Australian Uniform are bottle green, black and white. But in Russia we have red, black and white colors. In Australia students have more subjects, for example: Business studies and different foreign languages: Greek, Italian, Japanese, but in Russia students learn only English or German as a foreign language.

I’d like to draw a conclusion.

Australia as a unique country with its history and traditions, flora and fauna.

I’ve compared the Educational system of two countries: Russia and Australia.  Both systems of education have much in common. We have the same stages of education: Primary, Secondary and Higher, but different types of schools and subjects. It was exciting to find out that we have similar structures of school academic years (3-4 terms) but there is difference in vocations and uniform.

Next year I want to continue my work and write about sightseeing in Australia. I want to learn more about its flora and fauna, customs and traditions.

            If I had a chance to go to Australia I’d like to visit schools and see students and talk to them. I would tell them about Russian schools and vocations, terms and uniform. I’d be glad to visit different places of interest.
