Questions in reported speech When reporting questions: We use normal word order (subject + verb) not questions order. ‘ Where is Moscow?’ asked Andy. – Andy asked where Moscow was. -We do not use do/did. ‘ Where do you live?’ asked Sasha. – Sasha asked where I lived. -With yes/no questions, we use the reporting verb ask + if/whether. ‘ Is the cake nice?’ asked Amy. – Amy asked if/whether the cake was nice. -With Wh- questions (where, when, etc) we use reporting verb+ question word + clause (normal word order). ‘ Where does Maria live?’ asked Victoria. – Victoria asked where Maria lived.

Reporting verbs say and tell Say + (that) + clause ‘ I enjoy your music,’ said Kevin. Kevin said (that) he enjoyed her music. Tell + object ( pronoun or name) + to + infinitive ‘ Meet me in the mall at five o`clock,’ said Tod. Tod told meme to meet him in the mall at five o`clock.

Verb + (that) + clause OR verb + to + infinitive Claim, promise, threaten ‘ I call the police,’ shouted Molly. Molly threatened to call the police. Verb + object + to +infinitive Advise, ask, beg, invite, warn ‘ Be more careful’, said Brad. Brad advised me to be more careful.
