The Fire of 1992 Windsor survived during the wartime bombing raids 50 years later the big fire began in Queen Victoria’s Chapel The fire spread rapidly, destroying many ceilings 200 firemen from 7 brigades struggled 15 hours Restoration began immediately after the fire The most important tasks were to protect the building and to dry it out 7 million liters of water had been pumped The Prince of Wales was a chairman of the Art and Design Committee The work was completed in 1997 before the Golden Wedding of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburg The cost was 37 million pounds
