The Globe Theatre The presentation was made by Lezhnina Maria a student of the 9 formСлайд 2
The famous Globe Theatre was the centre of London theatrical life. Shakespeare played on its stage and he wrote plays for this theatre.
Слайд 3
Poor people walked to the Globe Theatre and rich people came in boats across the river Thames, or took cabs. The performances were given in the day-time, and there was no scenery.
Слайд 4
Shakespeare wrote most of his plays for the Globe Theatre. In the middle, there was a kind of house. There the actors dressed and kept the things which were used in the performance. In front of it there was a platform. This platform, together with the balcony over it, was the stage on which the actors played.
Слайд 5
They came out of the house to the stage through two large doors. In front of the stage was a large yard. Round the yard there were three balconies, one over the other. Both these balconies and the yard were for the people who came to see the performance. The yard and the greater part of the stage were open to the sky. The actors were often very good. They could play, sing and dance.
Слайд 6
Women's parts were played by boys or young men. An actor often played two or three parts in one performance. Music was very important.
Слайд 7
The people of London loved their theatre very much. Everybody went to the theatre in London - young and old, rich and poor. Rich men and their wives sat in the balconies, and aristocrats were allowed to sit on the stage.

The theatre played a great part in the live of the people. The performance gave them great enjoyment, they came to learn something of the history of England or of some other country. They were taught the great science of life there.

The theatre at that time was more closely connected with the people than any other art. All kinds of Londoners went to the theatre and were very fond of it. Shakespeare's experience as an actor helped him greatly in the writing of his plays. His knowledge of the stage and his poetical genius made his plays the most wonderful ones ever written .

In 1949, an American actor Sam Wanamaker came to London and decided to visit the site of the famous Globe Theatre where Shakespeare had staged his plays. All he found, however, was a plaque on the wall of a brewery: “here stood the Globe Playhouse of Shakespeare “. Wanamaker was so shocked that he decided to rebuild the Globe. It took many years to raise the money, get permission and find out exactly what the place looked like in the old days.
Слайд 11
On June 12 1997, Her Majesty the Queen opened the International Shakespeare Globe Centre, the recreation of Shakespeare’s theatre. Unfortunately, Sam Wanamaker died in 1993 and wasn’t in the audience to see his dream finally come true.
Слайд 12
Today, you can visit the beautiful new Globe, and in summer you can even see a play performed as it would have been in Shakespeare’s day.
Слайд 13
Shows at the new Globe are stage in much the same way as they were then – with no scenery, spotlights or microphones. And, as in Shakespeare’s time, the crowd is free to join in, calling out to the actors and getting involved in the story.
