And what is a citizen? -
It is a worthy son of Fatherland!
N.A.Nekrasov
What does the sentence “I am a citizen of Kalmykia” mean? At first it is difficult to answer. Let’s take some examples. A doctor helps people to improve their health. A worker makes machines. A farmer grows plants. A teacher teaches pupils. A soldier defends our country. In short we can become builders, teachers, doctors or pilots. But a citizen is not a profession. In my opinion, to be a citizen means to be responsible for one’s work, for the future of our country. People become doctors to help other people. They become farmers to give their country more bread. They become workers to make new machines needed by their country. They become teachers to give the youth knowledge necessary for their life. It is a property of human to glorify the place of his childhood, to amaze listeners by antiquity of origin of life in that place and by participation of village or city in the history of Motherland, by names of famous people which was born here.
There are many qualities I feel necessary for a person to be a responsible citizen. A responsible citizen means to be a caring and giving citizen in your community, nation, and world. Being honest, helpful, cooperative, respectful, patriotic and doing what you believe is right are the qualities that I feel are important.
I am very proud and happy that live in Kalmyk Republic. I am proud of being Kalmyk citizen. . I am proud of being Russian citizen.
Our republic is a federal subject of the Russian Federation. 400 years ago Kalmyk people joined Russia of their own free will. In 1609 Khan Ayuka of Kalmykia addressed the Russian tsar Vasily Shuisky with a request to accept the Kalmyks into Russia in return for their loyalty and devotion. By tsar’s orders the Kalmyks settled in the southern part of Russia, in the steppes of the Volga and the Don.
The Kalmyks are the only Asians and Buddhists living in Europe. For nearly four centuries the people of Kalmykia have been in good neighborly relations with representatives of other ethnic groups and have been cherishing their culture, language, customs and traditions.
As for me, my role as a Kalmyk Citizen is very important to me. I have many things that I would like to do to become a Citizen of Kalmykia. The thing that I would most like to do to become a citizen of my republic is to help people out so that they can learn a lot about the life that is among them... Of course, we have a duty to the society where we live. Citizens must have an obligation of loyalty, an obligation of loyalty to the place where they live. A Citizen loves his homeland.
The Kalmyk people have suffered a lot of grief and misery. Inhabitants of the republic still remember scenes of deportation and life in Siberia. The Kalmyk people suffered under Stalin’s oppressive rule, many people have died. In spite of grief, the Kalmyk people remained loyal first and foremost to their traditions and customs and the clergy. I know that Kalmyks are the great citizens of their republic.
I think that the young people of our republic must become worthy citizens of Kalmykia. A citizen is a person whose thoughts and actions are directed to the benefit of the Fatherland, for the benefit of its people.
We must get profound knowledge at school, graduate the university and become excellent specialists to help our republic in some difficult situations. We must build an ideal society. I am sure a happier and fairer future awaits us and our Kalmykia.
