Floods take the first place among natural disasters because of their great area and average annual damage.

There are six main types of floods. HIGH WATER – is caused by usually spring melting of snow on plains or a rain precipitation, and also spring-and-summer melting of snow in the mountains.

HIGH WATER can be intensive and periodic. JAM — is a result of ice floes during a spring ice drift in narrow places of the rivers and bends of the bed of the rivers.

ZAZHOR — a congestion of ice (the end of autumn, the beginning of winter) in the narrow places and bends of the bed of the river. WIND SETUP — is caused by the influence of a wind on a surface of the water, happening usually in sea mouths of the large rivers.

How to be prepared for the flood Remember the places of storage of boats, rafts and construction materials for their manufacturing. In advance make the list of documents, property and the medicine which are to be taken out during the evacuation. Put into a special suitcase or a backpack necessary warm clothes, a supply of products and medicine.
