1) Introduction

Orphans… Children, who live without parents, who don’t know what does mother’s love mean. They have never listened cradle-songs at night… We can hear rather often that a new orphanage is opened in Moscow. From the one hand, it’s very good. It means that a hundred of orphans have found their new friends and teachers, of course, their own homes, a place where they can feel love and care. But оn the other hand, it’s very strange. Why do we have such a great number of “homeless” children nowadays?

2) Why do  children become orphans

So, what are the main reasons of appearing such children in our society nowadays? The key reasons are the deprivations of parental rights and refusal from new-borners. Sometimes the situations in a family are very difficult, because parents are alcoholic or drug-addicted people. They don’t care of their children properly or even beat them, that’s why social services of local authorities often make a decision to take children away from the family and to deprive parents of their parental rights for bad and indifferent or even cruel attitude to children. There are a lot of different difficult life situations and sometimes it seems to a woman that the only right way to solve problem is a refusal from her new-born child. Thus, children become orphan.

   3) Society helps to such children

In our days we can see young couples without children, though they want to have them. What should they do?

In my opinion, the best way to help is adopting. It’s good for young parents for a little child, I think. Because the child will be able to have his own family, loving parents and the couple will have a good child. But we have no so many couples without children. Also, a new kind of children’s home appeared in our country. We call them family children’s home. There children can have friends and special care.

4) Our visit to the House of Mercy

  Speaking about my town I can say than there is the House of Mercy. Children from families where parents were deprived of their parental rights live there for some time. Then the authorities find them another place to live. There are 12 children of different ages from different parts of Moscow region there. The local church and authorities try to help them. Children study in different schools of our town. But you cannot adopt children who live in the House of Mercy. Our state helps such orphans. They are given money compensation and flats at the age of 18.

In the House of Mercy there are a gym, a musical hall, the rooms for boys and for girls. All children have equal rights. They take part in all extra-curricular activities. The teacher help people in difficult situations give them some pieces of advice.

5) Nowadays we can see new tendency in our society. Many famous people adopt children though they have their own ones. For example, famous actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They adopted 3 children from different countries. But what does our society think about it? We decided to do an interrogation to learn it.

6) Public Opinion Poll

 Hundred students of different ages took part in our opinion poll. And the results are like that:

What is your attitude to orphans?

1. 75% - I don’t think about them.
2. 5% - I have negative feelings towards them.
3. 20% - I sympathize with theme.

Would you like to help them?

4. 28% - Yes, I would.
5. 19% - No, I wouldn’t.
6. 53% - I don’t know exactly, but may be.

Do you have any friends who live in the orphanage?

7. 37% - Yes.
8. 63% - No.

1. My attitude to the problem

As for me, I think that such children can become full member of society. In my opinion they are kind and easy-going. They have the same rights and opportunities as other members of our society. And our state must help them in their life.

   13) Conclusion

In conclusion, we want to emphasize that the problem is very important and vital nowadays. People should find the solution of it. They say that “the children are like flowers and we should take care of them”. We asked you to be very attentive to orphans, to respect them, to help them as much as you can.
