Millions of years ago there was a huge but shallow sea on this territory. Later the sea disappeared thanks to some certain climatic changes. First the territory of this district changed as well and the village named Sсhelkovo appeared. And thanks to developing science in the early XVI century the settlement became a town in 1925. Nowadays Schelkovo is one of the biggest towns in Moscow region (quite near the capital). It’s situated on the banks of the Klyazma River. Now we may think Schelkovo is about 500 years!

As the center of the town changed its place, now the square is named after Lenin and considered to be the Center where the holidays and traditions are celebrated. More than 40 years ago the name of this square was Sovetskaya and the present Lenin’s monument was erected in 1972 and it was placed on the other side of the square. The demonstrations were typical for those times in different parts of Russia. There are many places including the central part of the town where people can rest: in the green parks, beautiful squares, cosy cafes and Schelkovo is a town where you feel at home, because visitors of town can feel the atmosphere of hospitality in Schelkovo. Now some words about the historical places you can visit in our town. Unfortunately, during the World War II most of them were destroyed partly, some were in ruins. Now they are under restoration and some new churches have been built. As most towns Shelkovo has its own museum of Local History, an Art Gallery and other places of interests.

Town remembers all great events of its country by memorials and other ways, so it’s prospering and developing from day to day.
