Later I looked up in “ Abby Lingvo” dictionary and found eighteen more phrases with this word:
Now, when I knew meanings of this word, I could easily translate sentences with a word “coach”. But by chance in one of American films I heard a phrase:” You are a real coach potato!”
I didn’t know this phrase. “ What does it mean?” I took a dictionary again but didn’t find the meaning of this phrase. This phrase didn’t let me rest. This time I decided to surf the net. Hooray! On the site “You tube” in the program “Rob the
tutor” I found out that “coach potato” is an American idiom and it has two meanings:
It is someone, who wants to sit on the coach (американское слово – диван! Ура! Еще одно значение), watch TV and do nothing. He doesn’t need to sit on a sofa, it can be a chair. Sitting around, being lazy, doing nothing, watching TV. It is not bad. For example, you can ask me,
A man doesn’t have a job and his wife looks at him. She says, “You need to stop being such a coach potato and watching TV, doing nothing. You need to get a job. Don’t be a coach potato!
But that’s not all! A new phrase appeared: «coach potato travelling».
New traveling agencies have appeared called «Coach potato travel» or «Coach potato traveler».
I’m reality surprised how many Interesting meanings the word coach has .
I wonder, will I find any more?
