General information about The Golden Ring The “classical” tour (counter clockwise) starts from Moscow, goes through Vladimir, Suzdal, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Rostov Velikiy, Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, Sergiev Posad. One of the reasons to go there is to see Russian architecture, old churches made of white stone, see old fortresses, beautiful temples and monasteries, and learn more about history of Russia. Also these towns can get you a pick of the Russian province and show you more traditional way of life. “ The Golden Ring” is one of the oldest Russian routes. It goes to the north-east of Moscow and forms a circle. There are many interesting ancient Russian cities and towns along the way.

My travel around The Golden Ring So one day my friends, our parents and I decided to take a 5-day guide bus-excursion around The Golden Ring. The first day we left Moscow and arrived in Vladimir. We saw old and impressive Assumption Cathedral, Dmitri’s Cathedral . Vladimir is an old town, it used to be capital of Russia in the 12 th century. The city has a provincial atmosphere and it contrasts with the big cities. The same day we also visited Suzdal. We have been to Suzdal’s Kremlin and also saw the small river Kamenka, which goes through the town.

My travel around The Golden Ring The next day our trip brought us to Ivanovo – a typical Russian industrial town. And then we went to Kostroma – a city that is almost as old as Moscow. We visited Ipatiev Monastery and also the Epiphany Cathedral with the 10 th century Byzantine icon. Pokrovskaya Church. Ivanovo

My travel around The Golden Ring The 3 rd day we stopped in Yaroslavl – the biggest city in the northern part of Russia. We saw there 17 th century red brick churches. At Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery we saw many religious icons. This town was founded by Yaroslav Mudry at the beginning of the 11 th century, at the place where the Volga river meets the Kotorosl. The same day we arrived in Rostov-Velikiy, which is located on Nero Lake. In Rostov Kremlin we visited the archeological museum.

My travel around The Golden Ring The next day our trip brought us to Pereslavl-Zalesskiy – an old Russian provincial town, famous for its many monasteries, old churches, the first boat “Fortuna” build by Peter I and Plesheevo Lake. We visited there The Museum of Iron and The Museum of Teapot where we could follow all the history of these household things. This town was founded by Yuri Dolgoruki in 1152. Then we returned to Moscow.
