Who is it? Mikhail Lomonosov is the father of the Russian science, an outstanding poet, the founder of Russian literature. He was one of the most talented and greatest persons of his time, an outstanding innovator both in the humanities and sciences.

On the way to becoming the “father” of science. Lomonosov wanted to study very much. At the age of 19 he left his home and went on foot to Moscow. He entered the Slavik-Greek-Latin Academy in Moscow. His First years of study were difficult; But Mikhail worked hard and made great progress in studying. His teachers saw how clever he was, so he was sent to St. Petersburg and then to Germany. In Germany he studied chemistry, mining, metallurgy and mathematics. He was engaged in many fields of natural and applied sciences.

The professor of chemistry. In 1745 Lomonosov became the first Russian professor of chemistry. In 1748 he founded the first Russian chemical research laboratory and together with his friend Vinogradov opened the secret of the chemical composition of porcelain.

The vegetable origin of coal. Mikhail Lomonosov was a great physicist, a chemist, an astronomer, a painter, a geographer, a historian and a statesman. He was the first to discover the vegetable origin of coal. Lomonosov made a telescope. He observed a lot of stars and planets with it. Many of his ideas and discoveries only won recognition in the nineteenth century.

Literature and Russian language. The first scientific grammar of the Russian grammar was also written by him. He played a great role in the formation of the Russian literature language. He adored poetry and wrote many poems.

Lomonosov as founder. M. Lomonosov founded a factory where coloured glass and porcelain were produced. By the way he made a portret of Peter the first from pieces of glass. This factory in St. Petersburg is called now “Porcelain Factory after Lomonosov” It is famous all over the world for the quality and beauty of its glass.

He also… He was the founder of the first Russian university. This university is situated in Moscow. It’s named after Lomonosov.

1765 M. Lomonosov was one of the outstanding persons in the world in the 18th century. He died in 1765. People know and remember him as a great patriot who loved Russia. His greatest scientific achievement helped to glorify our motherland.
