At eleven most pupils do to secondary schools called comprehensives. The Comprehensive System is non-selective. This means that all children go from one school to another without taking any exams and without being selected according to their abilities. Children study English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, Art, History, Music, Physical Education and a Foreign Language. The first three are called “core” subjects. Children take examinations in the core subjects at the age of 7, 11, and 14.
