The difference between Present Simple and Present Continuous
These verbs are not normally used in Present Continuous . They do not describe actions (like to jump, to go, to read, etc.). Groups of stative verbs include: - feelings and emotions (to like, to love, to hate, to dislike, to detest, to admire, to wish, etc.) I like books. - senses (to hear, to see, to smell, to taste, to feel, to sound, etc.) The soup tastes salty. - thinking and opinions (to know, to believe, to understand, to forget, etc.) I believe in magic. - others (to have, to belong, to include, etc.) I have a cat. Stative verbs
However, some of these verbs can be used in Present Continuous, but their meaning change. - to think I think you are clever. (opinion - мнение ) He is thinking about what happened. ( он обдумывает) - to have I have a lot of homework today. ( иметь) We are having breakfast now. ( завтракать) - to see Do you see these flowers on the table? (видеть) I am seeing Mary tomorrow. ( встречаться) Stative verbs (2)
