Mally's Meek, Mally's Sweet
Mally's Meek, Mally's Sweet Chorus-Mally's meek, Mally's sweet, Mally's modest and discreet; Mally's rare, Mally's fair, Mally's every way complete. As I was walking up the street , A barefit maid I chanc'd to meet ; But O the road was very hard For that fair maiden's tender feet. Mally's meek, &c . It were mair meet that those fine feet Were weel laced up in silken shoon ; An ' ' twere more fit that she should sit Within yon chariot gilt aboon , Mally's meek, &c . Her yellow hair, beyond compare, Comes trinklin down her swan-like neck, And her two eyes, like stars in skies, Would keep a sinking ship frae wreck, Mally's meek, & c.

-Hello, I am Kira!
-Hi, I am Gleb!
K- We are here to show you our project about great poet Robert Burns and his legacy.
G- But, before we start ,we have a few questions for you.
K- So, do you like poetry?
G- What is your favourite poem? Can you recite it?
K- Who is your favourite poet?
G- All right! Thanks for all your answers and let’s start our presentation.
K- As you know, Robert Burns was a great Scottish poet of the 18th century.
G- He is recognized for his work on universal themes of love and nature.
K- Burns was a farmer’s son who could speak to the common man.
G- His life growing up among the ordinary people of Scotland meant he could write about nature and hardship as well as love and family.
K- He has a national day named after him on the 25th January each year. Burns’s Suppers are celebrated on this day with traditional dishes of haggis and whiskey and recitals of his best-loved work “Address to Haggis”.
G- His poems were humorous and he used small subjects to expose big ideas
K- Burns has left a long legacy of romantic poetry that is still sung and recited today.
G- Probably because he was the ladies’ man.
K- He was influenced by the female writers of his time who were the advocates for female rights. This gave him a respect for women which is evident in his works.
G- Since Burns died a poor man, his poems and songs are his only legacy. And we especially wanted to make an accent on his love lyrics.
K- We decided to choose the poem Mallys Meek, Mallys Sweet. We tried to find different translations in Russian, but there is only one, made by Marshak, which is very different from the original poem, but, at the same time very sweet and unique.
G- That’s why we decided to try our best and make our own translation. We hope you like it.
